Details: Corey Hilz will be leading a photo session first thing in the morning to explore the fall splendor of the gardens in early morning light. From garden scenes to macro details there will be plenty of beauty to capture with your camera. Corey will be demonstrating techniques and offering suggestions on composition as participants photograph. Corey will also be available to answer questions and provide feedback on compositions, working to help everyone capture their best images. Photographic Fun in the Digital Age with Tony Sweet- FotoWeekDC 2009 at Meadowlark, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Details: Learn from Tony Sweet how software, especially plug-ins, can be used to create the images you see in your imagination. The class will illustrate the use of all nik plug-ins, Alien Skin software, Topaz, LucisPro and Photomatix HDR software. After a 75-minute presentation, there will be Q&A followed by a field session where we’ll make images with software enhancements in mind. Raptor Photo Shoot- Birds of Prey, FotoWeekDC 2009 at Meadowlark, 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. (50 minute sessions)
Cost: $25 per person, per session; limit 16 photographers

Details: Members of the all-volunteer Raptor Conservancy of Virginia (RCV) will have eight different hawks, owls, and falcons available for photography in a natural outdoor setting. Four birds will be featured each session by two handlers, with each bird available 20+ minutes per session. The RCV is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured, ill, or orphaned birds of prey (raptors), and education of the public about raptors and the preservation of their habitat. All funds received will go for the upkeep and care of RCV raptor patients and resident birds. Details: Discover the small fascinating pieces of the world! Join Corey Hilz to learn what equipment to use and when to use it so you can capture the best close-up photographs. The illustrated lecture will demonstrate the technical and creative aspects to successful close-ups. Equipment covered includes macro lenses, extension tubes, screw-on close-up lenses, teleconverters, focusing rails and tripods. Find out how diffusers and reflectors can be used to control light. In addition, the class will spend time on choosing the best aperture, working with background elements, getting the most out of your depth of field and placing the focus right where you want it. Whether you’re new to macro photography or want to further improve your abilities, you’ll benefit from this class. The skills you’ll learn can beapplied to any subject of macro photography, at home or in the field. HDR and Focus Stacking with Corey Hilz, FotoWeekDC 2009 at Meadowlark, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Details: Join Corey Hilz to explore two techniques which open up creative possibilities for your photography: High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography for capturing greater shadow and highlight detail, and Focus Stacking to create an unlimited depth of field. These techniques can be applied to all types of photography. Participants will learn how to set up their cameras and take photos specifically for HDR and focus stacking. Then we’ll go through step-by-step how to use the software programs to create the final image. Attendees will receive handouts withguidelines and tips for using Photomatix Pro and Helicon Focus/Photoshop CS4.
