Long time Falls Church City resident Charles L. Perkins was presented the Lions of Virginia Distinguished Humanitarian Award by the Falls Church Lions Club at a ceremony Tuesday.

The award citation read as follows:

“Over a number of years, Charles Perkins, and his company, Lee Properties, have been quietly assisting numerous causes, donating to charities, and generously helping many individuals in need.

Five years ago, when our Lions Club began an annual Charity Golf Tournament, we were not certain how much support we would receive from local businesses.  When asked, Charlie, through his company Lee Properties, became a loyal Corporate Sponsor, supporting this annual fundraiser each year, helping our club reach its fundraising goals that provides vital support for Sight and Hearing programs as well as many other youth and community service projects.  Charlie has consistently supported our golf event.  Mr. Perkins support of Lions’ activities speaks only to a minor role he plays in helping others.  Sharing his blessings with less fortunate and needy individuals is of vital importance to Charlie, along with supporting established charitable organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation and many others.

Additionally, he provides financial assistance to many individuals who are undergoing hardships due to illness, unemployment, or monetary shortages related to extenuating circumstances – helping approximately 30 to 40 different people each year.

Virginia Lions feel that this highest honor is a fitting recognition for outstanding commitment and dedication to the ideal of rendering humanitarian service by selected members of the community.”

The ceremony occurred at La Cote d’Or Restaurant.
