City Releases Election Ordinance, Budget Estimate

Falls Church City government has posted on its web site documents pertaining to the Nov. 16 City Council work session, including a fiscal year 2011 budget forecast and a draft ordinance to move the 2010 City election from May to November.

The budget document, prepared by City Chief Financial Officer John Tuohy, forecasts a FY2011 shortfall of $7.6 million.  A related actuarial memorandum discusses projected shortfalls in the pension fund for City employees and the plan to raise funding levels.

The draft election ordinance specifically applies to the election now scheduled for May 2010 as opposed to a later election.  Although the document begins with a request for the Council to approve the ordinance, it states that City Attorney John Foster has no recommendation on the matter.  The document does not state which Council member proposed the ordinance.

Other documents for tonight’s meeting are available via the work session agenda.
