No SCHOOL on Monday! (But City Offices Open at 10 a.m.)
The City of Falls Church announced Sunday that City schools will be closed Monday, Dec. 21.
On Monday the decision was made to keep schools closed through Wednesday (which was the last scheduled school day for the year).
The City’s GEORGE bus service will not operate on Monday.
The Community Center and Library will open at 10 a.m. Monday, as will City Hall. Employees will have the option of unscheduled leave.
The snow emergency declared Friday is still in effect, so parking is prohibited on snow emergency routes. Because snow removal is continuing, there will be no special pickups, brush or leaf pickups. Most of the City streets are passable, but crews are continuing to clear neighborhood streets, cul-de-sacs and widening intersections.
Now that the snow has stopped, residents and commercial property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks surrounding their properties as soon as possible.
With the sunshine, citizens should watch out for snow falling from rooftops and trees and should also expect refreezing on Monday, which could make walking and driving a challenge.
