When Did Your Street Get Plowed?
February 7, 2010
To help the City keep track of what has been plowed and what hasn’t, please give us the condition of your street.
Has it been plowed? If so, when? Please tell us your block, and, if you know, how far it has been plowed, using cross streets as markers.
Thanks for the information!

I was very pleased to see the first snow plow at 7:20 AM Sunday in the 300 block of West Columbia followed by a front loader around 10:30 AM which cleared many of the driveway aprons in the cul-de-sac.
Immediately. They were out all Friday night and the street was as clear as could be expected on Sat.
This type of snow is to unusual – and will be more unusual in the future – that investing in another snow plow would be a WASTE of money.
Maybe we all just need a little patience because most streets and most parking lots are still unplowed.
(There was another snow plow in the budget not too long ago but was but because of the expense and the fact that is used maybe 5 of 365 days a year.)
It’s the saleried overtime that costs the city so much money and that is an issue that you might want to investigate.
The City Plows were out early and often. Considering the volume they get an A+ from us.
Oiur Street was plowed on Saturday, early Sunday and plowed again and salted Sunday afternoon. Location is N. Cherry and E. Jefferson.
I am amazed at the overall conditions as we walked around that the snowplows have achieved so much. Must be because folks are off the streets….overall great job on this end of town. Just the clearing of the driveways after the plow comes through, which is unavoidable. Thanks Environmental Services !!!!
Greenwich St. between West and Walnut was plowed aprox 6pm on Saturday. Walnut had not been plowed as of Sun 6pm and Greenwich St. past Walnut had not been either.
W Marshall St. was plowed several times Saturday. I saw the plows today but it was not necessary to plow again. A+ from us.
Berry/Brook and Cleave and Berry’s tail that intersects with Broad was plowed from about 3pm to 4pm Sunday. First and only.
We live on Patrick Henry and the plows are always here early and often.. we’ve got a lot of snow .. but cant be more pleased .. It is a major thoroughfare to Sleepy Hollow, the elementary school and Jeb stuart so lots of kids driving here. Excellent response !!
Sycamore was plowed by 3 on Saturday and re-plowed many times after that and treated with sand and salt that night as well. The city worked did a really good job!
Just as in December, we, the forgotten far east siders (Rochester and Quesada St), were not visited by the City crews.
Bill, hearing your woes makes me wonder if the City has an agreement with Arlington for your street. It seems that being on streets that do not connect directly with FCC (you can’t leave your street without going into Arlington) puts you at an extreme disadvantage. Perhaps an email to the City Manager could help explain your situation?
For us on the East end, walking a few blocks into Fairfax demonstrates at least one advantage of being an independent, small city. We are plowed, Fairfax Co. is not. I hope that those mentioned in the Walnut area are visited soon, and Bill finds some satisfaction in talking with City Hall.
Randolph Street got plowed on Sunday morning. It is passable, but slippery. It has only gotten one pass. We could use some salt though. All in all, pretty pleased with the City.
Similar to December, our Bel Air neighborhood (Barrett Road, near the intersection of Sleepy Hollow & Kerns) has yet to be plowed.
Garden Court was plowed before dawn on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tollgate Way was cleared on Sunday, around 1 p.m. – a chore due to the height and heaviness of the snow – with a back hoe and loader; great job! Mounds of snow in the parking area cannot be avoided in a snowfall such as this. A+
Spruce & Offut was given a once over, passable but still dangerous.
Too many folks parking on the streets…..
I had to go to JMU today. 66 in Fauquier County both directions was a mess. A semi had just been uprighted when we were passing coming east.
We stopped at Costco in Fairfax on the way home I was surprised that Route 50 was as big of a mess as it was being that it is a main road.
Compared to those, the FC roads are looking good.
No complaints here. We’ll just keep the 8-horse sleigh in 4WD for awhile!
Villa Ridge was plowed about 3:30 Sunday, frontloader followed by 2 plows. No snow removal before then. I was surprised how much snow was still on Broad Street yesterday afternoon.
