SATURDAY 3/27: Enrollment Deadline for Rape Aggression Defense Classes
The City of Falls Church Police Department is offering a free Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women, 12 years of age and older. The course is offered in four 3-hour sessions. Classes will be held at St. James School (830 W. Broad St.) on April 5, 7, 12, and 14, from 6-9 p.m. Participants are required to attend all four sessions.
The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that addresses awareness, prevention, risk reduction, risk avoidance, and the basics of hands-on self-defense training. R.A.D. is not a martial arts program. Nationally certified R.A.D. instructors from the City Police Department teach the course.

I strongly encourage women of all ages to take this course. As a former instructor of a similar course offered by the Fairfax County Police, I can attest to the transformation of the women who take this course. The instruction is to the point and scenario based and the techniques are clear and workable. For women or girls who have never made a fist or thrown a punch, I can assure you that at the end of the session you will feel quite differently about your own abilities. This is not just a course of physical action, it is a shifting of mindset and the development of heightened awareness that will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.
