Friday, May 7, marks this year’s opening of Art-A-Lot as part of the monthly FIRSTfriday of Falls Church events. Located in the parking lot next to Art and Frame of Falls Church, 111 Park Ave, Art-A-Lot features live music, art exhibits and a “cruise in” of classic and vintage automobiles from 6 to 8 p.m.
Dozens of beautiful cars are expected to drive in Friday evening to compete for the trophy that will go to the top finisher! On the outdoor stage, watch and listen to the band, Guava, featuring George Mason High School students Matt Abel, Ethan Davis, Chris Almeidad, and Tyler Waters. Art-A-Lot includes exhibits by several artists such as local favorites, Cathy Summers, Bev Rocco, and Peter Tomlinson. And literally on the parking lot will be an exhibit by photographer, Bob Witt titled “Grounded: Starting from the Ground Up.”
While Art-A-Lot is happening outside in the parking lot, as usual there are lots of indoor FIRSTfriday events to attend throughout the evening including Gary Mester’s photographic exhibit at Art and Frame titled “The Little City” and featuring images of Falls Church parades, festivals, people and places. Check out other indoor art exhibits at Stifel and Capra (260 W. Broad St), Curves (240 W. Broad), and at Stacy’s Coffee Parlor (709 W. Broad).
Make your own art at Clay Café Studios (101 N. Maple Ave) or get ready to paint Falls Church during the Plein Air Festival sponsored by Falls Church Arts by getting your canvas or paper stamped at ArtSpace Falls Church, (410 S. Maple Ave).
Need more music than Guavas’s performance at Art-A-Lot? Check out the bands at Dogwood Tavern (132 W. Broad) and Ireland’s Four Provinces Restaurant (105 W. Broad). And there are lots of FIRSTfriday dining specials, too, at Maneki Neko Japanese Restaurant (238 W. Broad), Clare & Don’s Beach Shack (130 N. Washington), Argia’s (124 N. Washington), La Caraquena (300 W. Broad) and Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike). Beer buddies can do some tasting at Red, White & Bleu Wine & Gourmet (127 S. Washington).
