Wednesday is Waste Day in the City of Falls Church beginning June 2. All residences which currently receive City-provided curbside solid waste collection will soon receive refuse, recycling, yard waste, bundled brush, and special bulk items collection on Wednesdays – everything the same day. The City has contracted American Disposal Service to provide a more efficient service that increases customer convenience, while decreasing the cost to City taxpayers. The new privatized collection will save the City approximately $150,000 annually.
City staff and the recycling contractor will continue to collect solid waste according to the current schedule through the last week of May.
Fall vacuum leaf collection remains unchanged with DES staff providing this service from October 15 through December 15.
DES and the Environmental Services Council (ESC) will hold a public forum about the new Wednesday curbside collection program on Wednesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Community Center, located at 223 Little Falls St. City staff will give an overview of the new service and will seek public input about the forthcoming refuse and recycling cart sizes and distribution. ESC members will also discuss a proposal to adopt a SMART program – a system that Saves Money and Reduces Trash while minimizing environmental impact.
For more information about the new service call the Solid Waste Hot Line 703-248-5160.
