After the bell rang at 1:45 this past Friday at George Mason High School, students, faculty, and staff made their way to the gym for a pep rally to get students ready for “revive week”.

Before the activities got under way, Principle Tyrone Byrd took a few moments to welcome some special guests. The guests, who came from It’s Academic and Giant Food, were there to announce Boon Sakprayoonpong as the winner of the recent logo competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of It’s Academic. The logo, as seen here, will be printed and sold on all reusable Giant shopping bags starting this coming April.

GMHS has had a long term relationship with It’s Academic, and through the years has sent many teams to participate on it. This past fall, a team from GMHS was featured on the show and they defeated teams from Park View High School of Sterling and Wakefield High School of Arlington. Teams that compete consist of three students and a faculty coach. It’s Academic holds the honor of being “the world’s longest-running television quiz program” by the Guinness Book of Records and is in its 50th year on the air. The program is sponsored by Giant Food.

In addition to winning the contest, Sakprayoonpong was also awarded with a $1,500 scholarship. Congratulations to you and your family Boon.
