Mason Boys, Girls Cagers to Play for District Championship

George Mason’s Boys and Girls Basketball teams will each play in the finals of the Bull Run District Tournament this week at the Mary Ellen Henderson Gymnasium.
The Boys team will play William Monroe High School Thursday night in the championship game, with tip-off at 7pm. Mason earned the right to play in the finals by defeating Clark County 60 to 43 Tuesday night after trailing at half-time. Mason was lead by Dmitri Venets with 19 points and Nate Ogle with 12.
George Mason is 2 and 1 against William Monroe this season after splitting the regular season games and winning the play-off game to determine the regular season champion 70-48.
The Mason Girls earned their spot in the final by defeating Madison County on
Wednesday night, 47-38 in the semi-final round of the Tournament. They will play for the championship at 7pm Friday at MEH against Central Woodstock.
The Girls semi-final game was close throughout, with Mason trailing 25-26 at halftime.
Mason’s defense strengthened to open the third quarter, and rallied to
lead 36-31 at the end of the third. Ashley Alexander led all scorers
with 15 points, Stephanie Cheney fought through double team defense to
score 14, and Julianna Rollo added 9 points from beyond the arc.
