The George Mason High School girls basketball team will continue their defense of the Division 2 State Basketball championship on Saturday.  The Lady Mustangs earned a #1 seed in the quarterfinal round by defeating Clarke County in the Region B championship game on Saturday night at Eastern Menonite University in Harrisonburg.

The Lady Mustangs are in pursuit of their fourth state championship in the past five years.  Their opponent will be the Indians of Northumberland High School, from Heathsville, Virginia.  Northumberland came in second in the Region A tournament and has an overall record of 17-6.

This quarterfinal game will be played at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 2nd at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax.  Winner of that game moves on to play in Richmond the following weekend.

Congratulations to Coach Thomas and his staff. This is a team with a great mix of talent and energy that has had a great season. Hope a fair number of folks can make the trip to Robinson on Saturday to cheer them on as they seek to head back to Richmond and another shot at the State championship.
