Virginia’s First “Tree City USA” to Plant Again May 30

Falls Church City takes its trees seriously.  It was the first city in Virginia to win the National Arbor Day Foundation’s “Tree City USA” designation, and now it has won the award 31 years in a row.

On Saturday, May 30 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the City will add even more trees as planting parties spread across town adding new saplings to the ground.

The City’s “Neighborhood Tree Program” is administered by the Village Preservation and Improvement Society (www.VPIS.org) in conjunction with the City Arborist.  For more information on how to participate, click here.

Separately, the VPIS Spring Meeting occurs Sunday May 17 at 3pm at the Falls Church Community Center, where the organization will hear from green building experts Patty Shields and Doug Fraser.  See  http://fallschurchtimes.com/2009/05/14/vpis-spring-meeting-to-consider-green-building/ for our earlier report on this meeting.
