Farms, Rivers, History and More, Through No. VA Park Authority

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority has released its event schedule for July 2009, which includes farm tours, paddle tours, concerts, car shows, history events, nature events, golf tournaments, and volunteer clean up days.

Falls Church is a founding member of NVRPA, which owns and operates the W&OD Trail.  Other members of NVRPA are Fairfax County, Arlington County, Loudoun County, Fairfax City, and Alexandria.

Volunteer Work Day at Potomac Overlook, 10 a.m.

Cost: Free

Mid Summer Tour of the Potomac Valley Native Plant Collection at Meadowlark, 2 p.m.

Details: Enjoy a walk below the cool canopy of the large trees in the native plant collection, and learn about perennials such as culvert’s root, mountain mint, black-eyed Susan, bee balm, cone flower, wild petunia and Yucca that bloom in the summer.

Art in the Garden at Meadowlark, 10 a.m.

Details: Atrium Horticulturist Tammy Burke will demonstrate how to create art pieces for your yard. Copper tubing will become a trellis to support vines; leaf-imprinted stepping stones will add beauty and provide a path in your garden; a sphere covered with glass gems will create a colorful accent

Details: Paddle trip with interval training and endurance. General good health required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Kayak experience necessary.

Details: Musical performances by local groups are held at the stage/field every other Saturday evening during the summer. Details: Enjoy this large display of daylily in the Visitor Center, hosted by the Northern Virginia Daylily Society. Many of these flowers will come from Meadowlark’s collection and from plants that will be for sale during the August 8 daylily sale. Visitors will be encouraged to vote for their favorites.
