Concerts in the Park Score 2nd Picture-Perfect Evening

IMG_1178

The weatherman gave Andrew Acosta and the New Old-Time String Band the hometown advantage Thursday at the season’s second Concert in the Park. Andrew grew up on Maple Avenue and is a perennial favorite of the concert series sponsored by the City’s Recreation and Parks Division and the Village Preservation and Improvement Society. Not a drop fell from the sky as Andrew and the Band played bluegrass covers intermixed with his own local compositions such as “Brown’s Hardware” and “The Orange Line.” Only after the band finished an encore of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” did a slight rain dare to fall for a moment. If you missed Andrew Thursday night, you can hear him many Saturdays at the Farmers Market. Click here for the Summer Concerts  in the Park  schedule.

It is great that our wonderful Falls Church tradition of summer concerts at Cherry Hill Park is featured in the FC Times. Please note that for the last three years, the concerts also include ART in the park. The nonprofit, all volunteer organization, Falls Church Arts arranges for a different visual artist to exhibit his/her work “under the FCA canopy” at each Thursday night concert. This summer’s remaining artist line-up is as follows: Fran Bell Simms on July 9; Bev Rocco on July 16; Kathleen Rogers on July 23; Denise Philipbar on July 30 and Kate Dodd on August 6.

Music and art under the summer sky! One of the things that makes Falls Church a great place to live.

    Gina,

Thanks for reminding us of the arts line-up!
