Crowd Turns Out for Penultimate Concert in the Park

“Hamburger James” proved a crowd-pleaser Thursday night with their “rockabilly” sound — lots of Chuck Berry mixed with some impressive original tunes but, strangely enough, no Elvis. Why is that strange? Because the  band takes its name from a member of Elvis’ entourage, “Hamburger James,” whose sole function was to go out and get hamburgers whenever the King was in the mood.

Even stranger is how fast time has flown this summer. According to Concerts in the Park MC Gordon Theisz, next Thursday is the last performance of the season — when the Virginia Preservation and Improvement Society presents rock ‘n’ roll/blues Tom Principato Band.

Loved the concert, those guys can rock. I wish them luck with the Sun studio time next month. We’ll have to look for the second CD next year.

This has been a great year for the concerts – good weather, good bands, and good crowds.
