School Supplies Needed for Fall for Fun Celebration
In this challenging financial climate some families in the City of Falls Church have a difficult time stretching already tight budgets to buy school supplies for their children. To help meet their need, the City’s Housing and Human Services Division is accepting donations of the following school supplies:
Gift Cards (Staples, Giant, and CVS – stores that sell school supplies)
Large Binders and Backpacks (suitable for high school students)
Tab Page Dividers
Spiral Notebooks
Safety Scissors
Pencil Pouches that fit into a 3 ring binder
Pens, Pencils, Crayons, Markers, Highlighters, Glue Sticks
Hand Sanitizer and Tissues (pocket size)
Erasers
Lunch Boxes
Healthy Snack Foods (individual serving size)
School supplies will be distributed at the Fall for Fun Celebration on Wednesday, August 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Berman Park (located behind Taco Bell on Ellison Street). Sponsored by the City of Falls Church Housing and Human Services Division and Falls Church City Public Schools, there will be free hot dogs, crafts, games, mini soccer, a moon bounce, massage chair, car seat checks, and child fingerprinting. Information on school and community resources for the coming school year will also be provided to families. The event is open to all City residents. [Rain date is August 20.]
If you are able to help a child be better prepared for schoool, please drop off school supply donations at the Housing and Human Services Division (300 Park Avenue, Room 100W), Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or place in the donations box in the Police Department lobby (open 24/7).
