EAT GOOD. DRINK GOOD. DO GOOD!
If you’re looking for something to do and want to do some good, head over to the Dogfish Head Alehouse at Seven Corners on Tuesday, August 18, and help raise some dollars for ArtSpace Falls Church. On that day, 15% of all sales will be donated to ArtSpace Falls Church, the new multiple-use arts center that opened recently.
Helping local community organizations is something that Dogfish Head Alehouse does every month. This month, the beneficiary is ArtSpace Falls Church located on South Maple Avenue and home to Creative Cauldron and Falls Church Arts. In addition to great food and drink all day and evening, there will be live music starting around 9:00 pm with a performance by Steve Saltzman. Steve will perform an acoustic set that will include classic rock and roll tunes and some original music as well. Steve is a local and his band, One Nation, plays regularly in many venues in Falls Church and the DC area. After Steve’s set, another Falls Church resident and recent graduate of George Mason High School, Grant Sabatier will play folk music with Lauren Knapp. The duo, known as The Trinkets, have recently played at the Blenheim Music Festival and at Live@Woodrow Wilson Plaza.
Volunteers from Falls Church Arts and Creative Cauldron will be on hand all day on Tuesday at Dogfish Head Alehouse, selling raffle tickets for chances to win one of seven different themed baskets such as “Night on the Town,” which features gift certificates for restaurants, theaters, and concerts and “Sports Package,” which includes various game tickets and a 2008 Big 10 Championship football signed by legendary Penn State coach, Joe Paterno. For those who might need to get in better shape after all the good food and good drink, you can buy a raffle ticket for the “Wellness Package” basket that includes a membership to Vantage Fitness, a massage and much more. Event organizer, Dede Haas says “you need not be present to win so you can eat, drink and enjoy, buy a raffle ticket or two and find out the next day that you’re a winner!”
Dogfish Head Alehouse is located at 6220 Leesburg Pike at the Seven Corners Center (at the entrance on Route 7 in front of Shoppers Food Warehouse). The phone number is 703-534-DFHA (703-534-3342). Tuesday’s hours are 11:30 am to 11:00 pm.
ArtSpace Falls Church opened in June and has been a busy place all summer. Hundreds of children have attended Creative Cauldron’s Arts Adventure Camps, and the walls are covered with 85 works of art in an exhibit by members of Falls Church Arts called ArtSlam! Right now, ArtSpace Falls Church is a “bare bones” space. Jim Lynch, President of Falls Church Arts, has noted that “we need only about $130,000 more” to complete all the planned construction. Additional equipment and furnishings are also needed to make the 3,000-square foot space fully functional as a local center for the performing and visual arts.
