So MUCH Music & Art This Weekend — Right Here in the City
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend that involves art or music, the “where” decision is easy: stay here in Falls Church. The difficult decision is: “what” to do because there are so many options.
The State Theater (220 N. Washington St.) is the site of a rock jam Friday night, Oct. 2, with “The Bridge” and “Papa Grows Funk.”
And if comedy is your thing, then head to The State on Saturday night, Oct. 3, and check out 20-year old Bo Burnham. Earlier this year, Burnham released his first full length CD which topped Billboard’s New Artist chart and was #2 on the Billboard’s Comedy chart in its first week.
As part of the FIRSTfriday events, you have lots of choices for what to do after work:
- Meet jewelry designer Ann Carney at Stifel and Capra (260 W. Broad St.)
- See art by Clark Fox, Eric Vanlaer, Henry Gallucio, Judy Smith and Diane Brunner at MOD Arts (201 Pennsylvania Ave.)
- Swing by the juried exhibit “pArtS” at ArtSpace Falls Church (410 S. Maple Ave.) featuring works in all media by members of Falls Church Arts
- Meet photographer Greg Hanson and see his images at Art and Frame of Falls Church (111 Park Ave.)
- Lots of art at ArtALot in the parking lot at 111 Park Ave. featuring paintings and photographs by Bev Rocco, Denise Philipbar and Peter Tomlinson
- Listen to jazz al fresco by “The Polar Overtones” at ArtALot
- Laura Brodie will be signing her novel The Widow’s Season at Art and Frame of Falls Church
- Irish balladeer Gerry Timlin will be performing indoors at Ireland’s Four Provinces Restaurant (105 W. Broad S.)
- Make your own music as a “Guitar Hero” at Clay Café Studios (101 N. Maple Ave.) and make your own pottery art, too
- Party late at the Dogwood Tavern (132 W. Broad St.) with music by the Billy Triplett Trio
And if choral music is what you crave, then head over to the Falls Church Presbyterian Church (225 East Broad St.) on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a concert by Echos (pronounced EE-kos), the Choralis chamber ensemble. The benefit performance will present highlights from past seasons of Choralis and celebrate its tenth birthday (See related story).
So many musical and artistic choices — right here in Falls Church.
