SATURDAY, 2/25: The Russians (and Puppets) Are Coming

The next stop in Creative Cauldron’s Passport to the World Festival of Music, Dance and Theater is Russia and Ukraine. On Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 pm, the Russkie Musikanti Balalaika Ensemble will perform different styles of Russian and European music, some composed especially for the folk instruments used.

- The “Russkie Musikanti Balalaika Ensemble” will perform on Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 pm at Creative Cauldron at ArtSpace in the Passport to the World Festival.
This talented ensemble is comprised of ten members of the Washington Balalaika Society, the largest Russian folk orchestra in the United States. The ensemble wears traditional Russian costumes and performs on authentic Russian folk instruments, bringing the magic of Russia and Eastern Europe to the broader community. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students.
On Sunday, February 26 at 2 pm, Tales from Russia and the Ukraine Story Theater will come to life with the help of large scale puppets, narration and choreographed movement. Creative Cauldron will explore folk and fairy tales from the ancient Slavic culture. Grand tales of heroes and heroines, animals and mystical beings all play a part in these “skazki” or folktales that have been passed from generation to generation. The interactive story theater presentation is great for the entire family. Tickets are $10 each.

Creative Cauldron performing artists will join forces with Raymi musicians for an afternoon of storytelling, folktales from the Andes in South America, puppets, choreography and music. An interactive event for the whole family on Sunday, February 5 at 2 pm. Part of the Passport to the World Festival presented by Creative Cauldron.

Dance the night away at the 1980s Dance Party fundraiser at ArtSpace Falls Church on Friday, March 2, sponsored by Tom Clinton.
“DJ Doctor G” will spin real vinyl records, playing disco, funk and rock and roll from 7:30pm-11:00pm at ArtSpace, 410 S. Maple Avenue. Admission is $10 per person. All proceeds will go towards ArtSpace facilities expenses. Read more

FRIDAY-SUNDAY, 2/3-5: Latin Music and Story Theater at Creative Cauldron

The Passport to the World Festival goes to South America this weekend with two musical performances and a story theater show at Creative Cauldron at ArtSpace Falls Church.
On Friday, February 3 at 7:30 pm, the Latin American musical duo Ernesto Bravo and Jose Sacin will present a musical journey with a wide variety of instruments such as guitar, charango, quena and Latin American percussion instruments. Bravo and Sacin are talented singers and musicians who will surprise the audience as they swithc from instrumentals to vocals for an unusual effect.

Raymi will perform Andean - Latin Fusion Music Saturday, February 4 at 7:30 pm at Creative Cauldron at ArtSpace.
On Saturday, February 4 at 7:30pm, Raymi will perform their haunting and mystical fusion of Andean and Latin music. Raymi uses traditional instruments such as Zamponas, Moscenos, Quenas and Tarkas in context with the classic band instrumentation, exploring the possibilities that the bass, guitars, keyboards and trap drums can have with the Andes tradition.
