Tinner Hill presents A Prelude to the Blues, a series of unique and up close concerts in intimate spaces featuring renowned blues musicians!
The first concert is on Sunday, March 6, from 4-7 pm, featuring bluesman Warner Williams. The inaugural concert will be held at the home of blues aficionados Lindy Hockenberry and Ed Christensen.
Called a national treasure by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife & Heritage, Williams has recorded for the Smithsonian’s Folkways Recordings label. He has a gritty blues voice and is one of the finest Piedmont blues guitarists in the country!

GM in Basketball Doubleheader

Since today’s game was postponed by snow, the George Mason Mustangs Girls Basketball team will join the Boys tomorrow night (2/23) in a Region B Tournament doubleheader. Mustang Gym at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School will host the Boys vs. Appomattox at 6 p.m. followed by the Girls vs. Strasburg at 8 p.m.
The Boys are seeded third in Region B and, with a win, will travel to Strasburg on 2/25 to face the winner of Clarke County vs. Central Woodstock.
The Girls are the top seed in their bracket. A victory tomorrow will send them to Strasburg on Thursday (2/24) to face either Randolph Henry or Clarke County.

Procuring Vehicle with Intent to Defraud and Public Drunkenness, 900 block W. Broad St. On Feb. 15, 12:03 a.m. a 29 year old Arlington man was arrested for failing to pay for a taxi fare and public drunkenness.
Driving Under the Influence, 100 block N. West St. On Feb. 15, 2:02 a.m., a 22 year old Falls Church man was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
Smoking in a Non-Designated Area, 6795 Wilson Blvd. ( Eden Center ). On Feb 15, 8:22 p.m., an officer observed a 30 year old Centreville man smoking tobacco products. He was arrested for Smoking in a Non-Designated Area.
Larceny from Building, 400 block W. Broad St. On Feb. 16, 5:46 p.m., the victim reported a laptop computer and computer monitor were stolen from a storage unit sometime between Dec. 2010 and Feb. 13.
Urinating in Public, 6795 Wilson Blvd. ( Eden Center ). On Feb. 17, 2:05 a.m., an officer observed a 42 year old Falls Church man urinating in the parking lot. He was arrested for Urinating in Public.
Underage Possession of Tobacco, 200 block S. Lee St. On Feb. 17, 5:01 p.m., a 15 year old male was arrested for Underage Possession of Tobacco.
Narcotics Violation, 900 block S. Lee St. On Feb. 17, 5:01 p.m., a 16 year old male was arrested for Possession of Marijuana.
Public Drunkenness, 1000 block Railroad Ave. On Feb. 17, 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the area for a report of an intoxicated man. A 49 year old man of no fixed address was arrested for Public Drunkenness.
Destruction of Property, 6757 Wilson Blvd. #16 (Café Le Mirage). On Feb. 18, 7:11 a.m., the victim business reported a front window and glass to the front door had been shattered sometime between 12:45 a.m. and 7:11 a.m.
Driving Under the Influence, 700 block E. Broad St. On Feb. 19, 3:16 a.m., an officer stopped a 33 year old Washington, DC man for a traffic violation. He was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
Larceny from Building, 1231 W. Broad St. (Don Beyer Volvo). On Feb. 19, 3:11 p.m., the victim reported his IPhone was taken while he was test driving a vehicle.
Public Drunkenness, 400 block W. Broad St. On Feb 20, 1:26 a.m., an officer observed two intoxicated men on the sidewalk. A 35 year old Moorestown, VA man and a 36 year old Falls Church man were arrested for Public Drunkenness.
Larceny from Building and Larceny from Vehicle, 929 W. Broad St. (Dancing Mind Yoga). On Feb. 20, 6:00 p.m., the victims reported their keys were taken from their jackets while in the business. The keys were then used to open the victims’ vehicle. Cash was stolen from the vehicle.
Trespassing and Public Drunkenness, 6795 Wilson Blvd. (Eden Center). On Feb. 20 7:52 p.m., an officer observed a 53 year old man of no fixed address intoxicated in the shopping center. He was previously banned from entering the Eden Center and was arrested for Trespassing and Public Drunkenness.
Smoking in a Non-Designated Area, 6795 Wilson Blvd. #20 (Pho Bien). On Feb 3, 10:25 p.m., an officer observed an intoxicated man smoking in the restaurant. A 47 year old Rockville, MD was arrested for Smoking in a Non-Designated Area and Public Drunkenness.
Only Two More Stops in Passport to the World Festival

On Saturday, February 26, Hui O Ka Pua 'Ilima will perform songs and dances from Tahiti, New Zealand and Hawaii as part of Creative Cauldron's "Passport to the World Festival" at ArtSpace Falls Church.
Hui O Ka Pua ‘Ilima, a Polynesian dance group, performs traditional and contemporary songs and dances of Hawai’i and the Polynesian islands of New Zealand and Tahiti on Saturday, February 26 at ArtSpace Falls Church, part of the “Passport to the World Festival” presented by Creative Cauldron.
Over the last 5 years, Hui O Ka Pua ‘Ilima has participated in many Asian Pacific American Heritage cultural events and a variety of festivals, lu’aus, and fundraisers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
The presentation format is informative and interactive and aims to spread the spirit of aloha and love for the history and culture of Hawai’i and Polynesia through song and dance.
On Saturday, February 26, there is a free dance workshop at 4:00 pm. Hui O Ka Pua ‘Ilima will perform a concert at 7:30 pm that evening. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors & students and can be ordered in advance at www.creativecauldron.org
On Sunday, Feburary 27 at 2:00 pm, there will be a Story Theater Presentation that is targeted to families with children. A fun and engaging way to introduce live theater to young audiences. General admission tickets are $5 each.
ArtSpace Falls Church is located at 410 S. Maple Avenue in the Pearson Square building. Free parking is available in the garages at 410 and 400 S. Maple Avenue.
The workshop and performances are part of Creative Cauldron’s continuing ”Passport to the World: Festival of Music, Dance, Art & Story” being held each weekend through March 5. The final weekend of the festival will feature a performance of music, drumming, storytelling and dance by Anansegromma of Ghana.
WEDNESDAY 2/23: Sewer Rehabilitation Work and Traffic Restrictions

During the week beginning Monday, Feb. 21, Am-Liner East will begin a project to rehabilitate sanitary sewer mains on North and South Cherry Streets in the City of Falls Church. This work is expected to take place from 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. From Monday through Thursday, traffic will be restricted to one lane on portions of Cherry Street.
On Wednesday, Feb. 23, because of the work’s proximity to the intersection of Cherry Street and East Broad Street, the following restrictions will be in effect:
- Southbound lane of South Cherry Street between East Broad Street and Wren’s Way will be closed.
- Traffic on East Broad Street will not be allowed to turn onto South Cherry Street or North Cherry Street.
- Right-hand eastbound lane of East Broad Street just before the Cherry Street intersection will be closed.
- Southbound through traffic on North Cherry Street should plan use of alternate routes, and prepare to observe detour signs while the work is in progress.

FRIDAY 2/25: MEH to Perform ‘High School Musical Jr’

High School Musical Junior” will be performed by a cast of dozens on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 24-26th. The performance begins at 7pm. This lively musical productions features student groups in a high school working through their differences and ultimately knowing “We are all in this together!”. The thespians, brainiacs, cheerleaders, skateboarders, basketball players and others will sing, dance and delight for three nights.
This is sure to be a great show with capacity crowds. Tickets for all ages are $8.00. Concessions will be available during each performance. Doors open at 6:30. Colonel McGee served as a fighter pilot during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, achieving the highest three-war fighter mission total of any Air Force aviator.
