On April 22nd the fight against cancer will go to the dogs! At the second annual American Cancer Society Bark For Life® of Falls Church, residents will have the opportunity to fight back against cancer alongside their canine companions.
American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. This event was created to celebrate the caregiving qualities that dogs provide to their human companions during a cancer diagnosis.
Registration begins at 8:30am with this special event taking place from 9:00am to 11:30am at Madison Park (334 Lawton St.). The event will begin with a short walk and then will feature speakers who have experienced the special relationships that dogs provide; a special ceremony honoring both humans and canines that have battled cancer; pet talent, costume and beauty contests; and plenty of opportunities to play and socialize with your canine friends.
The registration fee for each dog is $25. Each pet that pre-registers will receive a Bark For Life bandana. Also, the first 25 registrants will receive a special pet prize! Much like the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®, participants are encouraged to fundraise prior to the event and teams will be permitted to fund-raise onsite by providing dog related goods and services at the event for donations. Dog related businesses are welcome to participate in the event by becoming event sponsors.
Pets in attendance must be leashed and with current tags or vaccination papers. Pet owners must be prepared to clean up after their pets.
All proceeds of this event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Falls Church. Relay For Life raises funds for the American Cancer Society to help save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight event that raises funds and awareness to fight cancer in your community. Dedicated teams of friends, families, and coworkers commit to keep at least one member on track at all times … because cancer never sleeps.
Due to the large crowds, pets are not allowed at Relay For Life events. Thus, Bark For Life provides a venue for people and pets to participate together while raising money to support the fight against cancer.
