Anthony’s Restaurant Closing June 2

The restaurant released the following statement this morning:
Dear Patrons and Friends of Anthony’s,
It is with a heavy heart and sincere regret that we inform you that Anthony’s Restaurant will be permanently closing our location at 309 West Broad Street, Falls Church, Virginia. As a result of our lease expiring, our last day of operations will be June 2, 2013. Although we have yet to find a suitable new location, we continue our search and we hope to find a new home for Anthony’s in Falls Church. After 41 years of serving our patrons at this location, we would like to say THANK YOU for being a special part of our family and for all the wonderful memories. We will continue to serve the community at our Manassas location.

So what’s the holdup now for the Harris-Teeter project that was referenced earlier this week in the FCNP?
What a loss to our community. Can’t our city help out here? Sometimes crisis reaction works!
Tony and family and Anthony’s Restaurant has been home to so many of us at different stages of our lives and with many activities – Little League Baseball, Soccer, Scout parties; a quick lunch with a friend – when you said “meet me at Anthony’s” every one knew where it was; they were here before we were a town of good restaurants; a place where two teens could find what they liked to eat and parents could too; we even came there one evening to have a serious conversation with kids when we all had to keep our voices “civil”. It felt like a safe place. Now our travels to Anthony’s involve calling in an order and going to pick it up. Anthony’s has “the best pizza in town” and love that Souvlaki! Farewell good friends.
Good riddance. The food was at best mediocre and at worst inedible, the building was a rundown eyesore, and it was a low-density building with surface parking which should have been torn down decades ago.
I understand that Anthony’s has been working with the City to find a suitable location. I hope they can find one.
On a slightly related subject, does anyone know what is going into the old Dominion Jewelers space at 107 Rowell Ct? They have applied for a wine and beer license.
we’ll miss Antony’s restaurant. we patron it for over 20 years. Clean and fresh simple food that we enjoyed. We also feel sorry for the friendly staff that served us for those years. We felted like a members when we went there.
We hope that a new Tony will open soon, to grant us the pleasure to see all those friendly faces, and great food serve simply with honesty.
