Enjoy free Independence Day celebrations in the City of Falls Church on Saturday, July 4! The main event of music and fireworks will take place at George Mason High School.
Seating is available at Moore Cadillac Stadium and the Northern Virginia Graduate Center Parking Lot. Music performed by The Beach Bumz starts at 7 p.m. and fireworks start at 9:20 p.m. Blankets and flat-based chairs are allowed for seating on the field. Food and drinks will be sold on site, but alcohol, smoking, fireworks, and pets are not permitted. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held on Sunday, July 5 at the same location and time.
Don’t miss the Independence Day Readings of the Founding Documents of the Nation will be held at 1 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall (300 Park Ave.). Hosted by the Village Preservation and Improvement Society (VPIS), this annual event allows us to focus on the meaning of Independence Day with a review of the issues of the times and the reading of the important documents that created the basis for our democracy and freedom.
The event is sponsored by the City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks. For more information, call 703-248-5178 (TTY 711).
Parking and Traffic Restrictions for Fireworks
Metro and walking are the best options. The best ways to get to the high school for the celebration are the West Falls Church Metro or walking. Drivers are reminded to heed towing warnings in shopping centers and business parking lots; towing is usually enforced by the property owners or businesses. Parking also is not allowed along Broad St./Rt. 7/Leesburg Pike, Haycock Rd., and other major arteries in the area.
Gates to the school campus will open at 6 p.m. Parking will be available on campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Handicapped parking will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the school campus. Enter from Haycock Rd. and show your placard; officers will direct vehicles.
Parking will be restricted within the City limits near George Mason High School so that emergency vehicles can use residential streets. From 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, the following streets will have parking restricted to one side of the street only:
Birch St.
Spruce St.
Offut Dr.
Falls Ave.
Parking also will be restricted on Grove Ave., and for two additional hours — from 6 pm to 11 pm.
Traffic restrictions will also be in place after the show. Visitors are asked to heed police officers directing traffic:
No left turns at the intersection of W. Broad St./Rte. 7 and Haycock Rd./Shreve Rd.
No left turns out of the school campus onto W. Broad St./Rte. 7.
No left turn out of the school campus onto Haycock Rd.
No right turn out of the Metro entrances onto Haycock Rd.
When traveling on Haycock Rd. towards Great Falls St., no turn onto Grove Ave. or Highland Ave.
